Recruiting Tips
Ready to start sharing SWANA member benefits with your colleagues?
Here are some useful recruiting tips...
1. Follow-up is key, after giving your prospect a membership application, politely follow up with him/her to see if the application has been sent to SWANA. Inquire if they have additional questions. Offer to mail their application in for them. Or contact the SWANA membership office at (800) 467-9262 and request that staff follow up on your behalf.
2. Personalize the process. It may help to let your colleague know what you find most valuable about your membership. This may be something that they never even thought of needing and now you're letting them know that they can get it from SWANA membership. Tailor your effort to her/his individual need and highlight the SWANA member benefits that you think your colleague will find most useful. Maybe it’s SWANA certification or training programs and how these programs can enhance their career. Let them know about the MSW Solutions newsletter, the MSW Management Magazine or the online e-sessions.
3. Be prepared to answer questions. It's a good idea to have some resources at hand when you are talking to a colleague (see Tip 2). A list of the member benefits would be a good start. Contact the SWANA membership office at (800) 467-9262 to request additional membership materials.
4. If your colleague’s hesitation is due to financial reasons, point out to the many ways being a member can save them money. Members save money on registration to the SWANA Annual WASTECON Conference, technical
conferences, training courses, certification, and on valuable professional publications. In many cases, the savings can amount to the cost of membership.
5. SWANA membership dues are affordable to fit most organizational types, sizes and budgets.
