SWANA JOINS RENEWABLE ENERGY BUSINESS ALLIANCE GROUP HOPES TO INCREASE AND EXTEND TAX CREDITS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES
Silver Spring, MD (December 20, 2004) – The Solid Waste Association has joined with representatives of other renewable energy industries to advocate for an extension and increase of the tax credits for these energy sources, included in the American Jobs Creation Act, H.R. 4520, which was signed into law by President Bush on October 22, 2004. SWANA has led a long-standing effort to advocate for tax credits for landfill gas (LFG) and waste-to-energy (WTE) projects.

COURT APPROVES AMICUS BRIEF FILING BY SWANA AND NSWMA ON RD&D RULE FILING WAS OPPOSED BY GRASSROOTS RECYCLING NETWORK
Silver Spring, MD (December 3, 2004) – The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA), have been granted permission by the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to file a joint amicus (friend of the Court) brief to defend the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Final Rule on Research, Development, and Demonstration Permits for Municipal Solid Waste Landfills, issued in March 2004. The amicus brief filing by SWANA and NSWMA was opposed by the Petitioner in the lawsuit, the Grassroots Recycling Network (GRRN) on the grounds that the two organizations did not have a related interest in the proceedings.
