Welcome!
With a proven, groundbreaking 30+ year history in the field and over 400 subscribers, SWANA’s Landfill Gas Management Division is widely recognized as the PREMIER authority on issues surrounding landfill gas (LFG) recovery, control, management, utilization, & system design, operation, and maintenance. With 11 standing committees, SWANA’s oldest Division has taken a leading role in promoting the use of LFG as a sustainable and renewable energy source.
Who we are:
The Landfill Gas Division has 11 standing committees, each one responsible for a difernt aspect of division activities. Some of these divisions include:
Program Committee - This committee reviews abstracts submitted for WASTECON and for the Division's annual ymposium. Members can also pariticape as moderators for techinical sessions and contribute to the topic and speaker selection process for SWANA's monthly e-Sessions.
Awards Committee - This committee reviews the Excellence Awards submissions and chooses the annual recipients. Committee members also solicit and review Distinguished Individual Achievement Award nominations and select the annual winner.
Legislative and Advocacy Committee - Participation in this committee involves tracking current and pending legislation at the federal and state levels, providing comments on pending legislation and writing letters to elected officials in support of SWANA's stance on key issues.
Training Committee - Training committee members review training course updates, suggest topiccs for new courses and help to recruit faculty. This is an exciting time to joint he training committee as we are currently updating and expanding our triaing program.
What We Do:
Through a variety of events, training, and publications, SWANA’s LFG Division is committed to providing subscribers with a wide-range of focused technical content. Here are a few of the Division’s many products and activities:
Landfill Gas Symposium:
March 8-11, 2010, San Diego, California
The largest LFG conference in North America and a must-attend event for anyone looking to start or maintain a landfill gas system, and for those already working in the field. At this conference, and trade show, attendees have the opportunity to network and share information with other landfill gas professionals, hear presentations from industry leaders on current hot topics, and attend technical sessions or training courses covering a blend of current and emerging technology.
Landfill Gas Training:
The Division was instrumental in the development of several industry-leading training courses covering the landfill gas field. Courses have included: Landfill Gas Systems, Operation and Maintenance and Landfill Gas Basics and a home-study training package, entitled Managing Landfill Gas at MSW Landfills.
Legislative, Advocacy, and Rulemaking:
SWANA’s Landfill Gas Division has taken the lead role promoting the use of LFG as a sustainable and renewable energy source. In doing so, the Division regularly monitors, reviews, and comments on current legislative and regulatory actions that could potentially affect LFG operations. Recent initiatives include:
Quarterly Newsletter:
The Division’s quarterly E-Newsletter provides Landfill Gas Division subscribers with up-to-date industry-related news and unique case studies.
Awards:
The Landfill Gas Division currently evaluates and presents two SWANA Excellence Awards at WASTECON every year for Landfill Gas Utilization & Landfill Gas Control. The Division is also responsible for presenting the annual Landfill Gas Divisioin Distinguished Individual Achievement Award.
