  What is a SWANA Road-E-O?

During the inception of the Road-E-O, the Solid Waste Association of North America was mostly managers and mid-level foreman who would travel to various conferences for educational and networking opportunities.  These managers wanted to reward their staffs somehow and showcase the talents of their crews in a family atmosphere.  Thus, the Road-E-O was born!

The following equipment is used to test drivers' abilities in a standard obstacle course:

Landfill Equipment:
Compactor
Dozer
Articulated Front-End Loader
Articulated Dump Truck
Scraper

Trucks:
Transfer Tractor/Trailer
Rear Loader
Front Loader
Automatic/Side Loader
Roll-Off

Several chapters have their own Regional Road-E-O and the first and second place winners in each category move onto the International Road-E-O, usually a month after WASTECON.

Winners often receive cash prizes and some companies or municipalities match the awards.  Local papers cover the events and despite the competitive spirit, the Road-E-O remains a community outreach event that brings together families, co-workers, and professionals.

If your chapter is interested in hosting a Regional Road-E-O, you may download the manual  and insurance information or contact SWANA.
